A veteran of film, television and stage, Pam Arciero has spent her career making space for and giving life to other’s voices around the globe. Originally from Zimbabwe, and now living in NYC, Sifiso Mabena is discovering a voice of her own. Join these two prolific women for an engaging conversation about the life of a female theater maker, director and puppeteer, making space for underserved voices in the arts and what it means to be a woman of color in the world today.

About The Speakers

Pam Arciero is the Artistic Director of the National Puppetry Conference at the O’Neill Theater Center.  Pam performs for film, television and theater, most notably as a puppeteer with Sesame Street  (Grundgetta Grouch, Oscar’s girlfriend, and assorted characters) and for the Muppets for over 30  years. She is the Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Jim Henson Foundation. Pam is a director  for live theater, television, and film. She choreographs and directs live walk-around (the big versions of  the puppets) shows for Sesame Workshop in such far flung places as Jamaica, Turks and Caicos,  Barcelona, and Saudi Arabia, as well as Sesame Place and Sea World, USA. Pam has taught  puppetry all over the world, from New York to Hong Kong, Hawaii to South Africa and her love and joy  of Puppetry is contagious. Pam holds a Master’s Degree in Puppetry and Drama from the University of  Connecticut and a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance and Dramatic Arts from the University of Hawaii.

Sifiso Mabena is a New York based multidisciplinary theatre maker from Zimbabwe. Off Broadway: Riddle of the Trilobites (Flint Rep; New Victory Theatre), Red Hills (En Garde Arts), Art of Luv Part 6  (Abrons), Molly’s Dream (The Public: Fornes Marathon), Shoot Don’t Talk (Labapalooza, St Ann’s Warehouse), Ocean Filibuster (Abrons). International: Winter’s Tale (National Arts Festival, SA), The Comeback (HIFA, ZW), Love in the Time of Malaria (NAF, South Africa). Sarah Lawrence: Macbeth, Harmless, Endless Long Hot Summer, Under African Skies (solo show). As a playwright, Sifiso has collaborated with The Royal Court Theatre and the British Council (ZW). Her work has been performed at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (Winner of HIFADirect 2011), the Intwasa Festival and the Chimanimani Festival. More recently she co-directed The Othello Project forShake on the Lake. Sifiso holds an MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College, and is a CUNY Adjunct Professor in Theatre and a Guest Teaching Artist at Sarah Lawrence College.
