About Your Instructor
Mike Chann knows how to communicate. He has served in the Army Reserve for the last 20+ years in Public Affairs and Strategic Communications where he will retire in October. He deployed to Bosnia in 2000 where he brought radio shows across the country to teach people about mine awareness and weapon collection efforts. He deployed to Iraq in 2003/2004 and again in 2009/2010. In 2003 his team led the international coverage of the capture of Saddam Hussein. He has an Upper Midwest Regional Emmy as producer for coverage of the Minnesota National Guard’s deployment to the southern part of Iraq in 2009 and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in 2010.
After working in the Chicago, Louisville, and Atlanta areas he has spent the last 5 years at the United States Army Reserve Command headquarters developing and implementing nationwide training for communication specialists.
Mike Chann is a twice graduate of the University of Connecticut’s Puppet Arts program (’97 BFA, ’98 MA). He attended the Defense Information School’s Broadcast Journalism program and Public Affairs Officer course.
